Track of the Day #23: Dead! – Jessica

For fans of: My Chemical Romance, Frank Carter, Lower Than Atlantis
Hear it live: London KOKO (4 March) w/ Waterparks – tickets.

South coast rock outfit Dead! have crafted a striking brand for themselves over the past few years, finally releasing the crowning product, their debut album ‘The Golden Age Of Not Even Trying’, back in January. The record is a strong hello, and although it dips in places, ‘Jessica’ is a real highlight. Alex Mountford’s raw lyrics about an intense teenage love affair are melded with an infectious melody, the group buffing the song up even further with some beefy guitar solo action and a huge chorus. It’s one of the band’s more commercial-sounding tracks and sits close to the pop-punk end of the genre map, but! If that’s not your bag, it sounds equally as good stripped back, as proven by this NME basement session from a few weeks ago.
