Track of the Day #21: Sunflower Bean – Twentytwo

For fans of: Fleetwood Mac, Tame Impala, Parquet Courts
Hear it live: Norwich OPEN (26 March) – tickets.

Sunflower Bean can truly do no wrong. As their second album ‘Twentytwo in Blue’ draws closer, the New York trio have aired ‘Twentytwo’, easily their most striking song to date. Taking centre stage, Julia Cumming’s vocal drips like honey over shimmering guitar, while additional strings create an idyllic, cinematic soundscape like nothing the group have done before. It’s easy to forget how young the band are on account of their fantastic musical abilities; all three members are only 22 years old, yet their collective voice suggests wiseness beyond that. And yet, their music flows like a breath of fresh air that only young creatives can truly innovate. One thing’s for sure: this album will be incredibly special, and not one to be overlooked.
