Track of the Day #16: Confidence Man – Don’t You Know I’m In a Band

For fans of: CSS, Phoenix, Jagwar Ma
Hear it live: Latitude Festival (12-15 July) – tickets.

Brisbane party troupe Confidence Man have shared an exuberant new single, as well as details of their aptly titled debut album ‘Confident Music For Confident People’. Reminiscent of Yello’s 1985 hit ‘Oh Yeah’ (a.k.a. the track from the closing credits of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) ‘Don’t You Know I’m In a Band’ is flamboyant and ridiculous, a combination of deep, grooving bass and comically low-pitched vocals. The Brisbane supergroup is comprised of members from a range of Australian bands, and the key members all use aliases, such as so-called ringleaders Janet Planet and Sugar Bones. Behind the intrigue, this is a band bending the rules to do things their way, turning up the fun as high as they damn well please.
