It’s good to have Courtney Barnett back. Aside from a short lived side project with her droney US counterpart Kurt Vile, ‘Nameless, Faceless’ is the first new music from Barnett since her epic 2015 debut, and precedes a new album out later this year. A jaunty comment on harassers and trolls, the song feels like a real shift change for Barnett, stepping up to become an artist with something real to say, instead of the lackadaisical, hypochondriac slacker who sang about dead foxes and gardening. Not that there’s anything wrong with lo-fi – the woozily crunchy guitars are what make ‘Nameless, Faceless’ so charmingly, unmistakably Courtney Barnett. Make sure to pre-order the new album ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’ – it’ll be a good’n.
